Wednesday 28th September 2016 – Councilor Diane White from Kingston Young Carers was the Kingston Riverside Rotary Guest.
Diane set up and runs Kingston Young Carers (KYC). With a small team of 2 employees and volunteers they run many projects for children and young adults, which include lunch clubs at local schools to encourage children who may be a carer to come and talk, youth clubs and day trips.
£250k is needed each year to run the organisation, of which 14% comes from the government and 86% from fundraising and money from Comic Relief and Children In Need.
There are about 500 young carers registered in Kingston aged 5 to 25 years, with the majority being 5 to 18 years.
Kingston Young Carers are in the process of looking for new premises, and are interested in one particular local youth club facility that has recently been closed down. If successful it will be a permanent location to have space for all their activities and accommodate their offices.
How Rotary Members and Friends Can Help Kingston Young Carers Over Christmas and the New Year
Christmas Panto: On the 17th of December a Panto and Christmas Party is being held at the cornerHOUSE, 116 Douglas Road, Surbiton, KT6 7SB. Kingston Riverside Rotary members agreed to be in charge of building Santa’s Grotto.
Disney On Ice A number of their children will be going to see Disney On Ice on Thursday December 29th, at the 02, sponsored by Surbiton Farmers’ Market. As the children go by public transport, Kingston Young Carers need help from responsible adults to get the children to the 02, go off exploring, and then help with the journey home.
