ATTRACTING A NEW GENERATION
During the month of January, Riverside Rotary have welcomed some potential new members, whom, whilst they are deciding if they would like to join, we are calling ‘friends’. This idea which has already been implemented by some clubs, gives people the opportunity to experience the ideas and values of Rotary and help out at events, without feeling an immediate need to make a formal commitment.
It can also be of great benefit, as these ‘friends’ can bring new skills, for example, Chris Burchill who came along to our last meeting, has volunteered to help us set up a website and look at ways our Facebook page can be improved. (See http://kingstonriversiderotary.org.uk/ )
Last year a number of our members took part in the Great River Race, raising funds for Kingston Carers, and it is hoped that this year, our association with them will continue. The idea is to host a party for a group of the children, probably in the Summer. So if anybody has any connections with possible venues, entertainers, etc., please contact us on our email address email@example.com.
JOEL PROJECT VOLUNTEER TRAINING – NIGHT SHELTER IN KINGSTON
On the 18th June, a training session will be taking place at the Joel Project, which will enable members to provide assistance on shifts at this night shelter.
EVOLUTIONARY ALWAYS, SOMETIMES REVOLUTIONARY
Recently, I watched a video on membership in the 21st Century, which I found extremely interesting. One of the items mentioned was the need to re-position, and an example was given of trying to attract a generation of natural networkers, who are technically savvy, and who have a sense of civic duty. Whilst they may question the format of Rotary and its’ traditions, Paul Harris used the expression ‘evolutionary always, sometimes revolutionary’
INVITATION – COME AND SEE
So whilst Riverside Rotary is not planning on starting a revolution, if any Rotarians have friends or family, who may be interested in attending one of our meetings, to see how Rotary is evolving, then please do send us an e-mail.
